For UK small businesses
eBay is a global marketplace with enormous buyer recognition, established search behaviour and tools for both occasional and professional sellers. Powered by Casa is not trying to reproduce that marketplace.
Casa gives a small business its own online shop, customer journey and domain. The choice is therefore less about two versions of the same product and more about whether a marketplace or an independent storefront should sit at the centre of the business.
The short answer
Choose eBay when marketplace demand, auctions or access to established eBay buyers is central to the model. Choose Powered by Casa when you want a dedicated brand website, direct customer relationships and a simple product-to-postage workflow. Many businesses can use eBay as a sales channel alongside their own store.

| Charges | Monthly store subscription plus payment-related fees | Business fees vary by category, listing, sale and optional services |
| Listing format | Fixed-price catalogue | Fixed-price and auction formats |
| Brand control | Store pages, custom domain, colours and layout | Seller identity within eBay's marketplace experience |
| Best fit | A long-term home for a small product brand | Marketplace-led selling, collectables and broad buyer reach |
The value of eBay's marketplace
eBay gives products a chance to appear in front of people already searching with an intent to buy. Its reputation, buyer accounts and marketplace systems reduce some of the trust-building work a completely new website must do.
It also supports auctions, which can be particularly useful for collectables, rare goods and products whose market price is uncertain. Casa currently focuses on a conventional fixed-price catalogue for physical products.
The compromise is that a seller competes inside eBay's interface. Customers may compare several near-identical listings, and the marketplace experience is usually more prominent than the individual seller's brand.
How UK business seller fees differ
eBay's official UK business seller guidance says charges can include listing fees, optional listing upgrades, final value fees, a regulatory operating fee and international fees where applicable. Rates vary by product category, Shop subscription, seller circumstances and destination, so there is no single percentage that accurately represents every business order.
Powered by Casa uses a £1 first month followed by a £9.99 monthly store subscription. Casa Payments is included and Casa charges a 1% fee on successful orders. Domains and postage are selected and purchased separately.
Marketplace fees pay for more than software: they contribute to access to marketplace demand. Casa's subscription pays for the independent store infrastructure, but the business must invest its own effort or budget in attracting customers. Compare acquisition cost and repeat-purchase value, not only the fee on one order.
Brand and customer relationships
A Casa storefront can use a custom domain, its own navigation, logo, colours, content pages and policies. Customers register with that specific store, and newsletter subscribers join that merchant's audience. This gives the business a clearer base for repeat custom.
An eBay seller can build recognition through good listings, service and feedback, but the transaction remains governed by eBay's marketplace experience and policies. Buyers often begin their next search with eBay rather than navigating directly to the seller.
Managing products and fulfilment
Casa supports product galleries, categories, attributes and stock by variant. Once an order is paid, the merchant can compare supported postage services and buy a label using the delivery information already attached to the order. Tracking is retained with the order.
eBay offers mature seller and fulfilment tools, and it may be the stronger operational channel for businesses already processing large marketplace volumes. Casa prioritises a calm workflow for smaller catalogues and owners who do not want the controls of a large marketplace seller hub.
Using eBay as a channel rather than a home
An independent shop and an eBay account can complement each other. eBay can help reach marketplace buyers, clear particular stock or sell products suited to auctions. The independent store can carry the full brand story, customer content and repeat-purchase journey.
Businesses using both need reliable inventory discipline and must follow eBay's rules for transactions that begin on its platform. Do not attempt to move an active eBay buyer off platform merely to avoid fees.
The practical verdict
eBay is the better choice when the marketplace itself is the reason for listing: its buyers, auction format and broad product demand are difficult for an independent site to reproduce.
Powered by Casa is the better choice when the objective is to make the business, rather than the marketplace listing, memorable. It gives the owner a direct home for products and customer relationships without requiring them to assemble a traditional website stack.

Common questions
Is Powered by Casa an alternative to an eBay Shop?
It is an alternative when the goal is an independent ecommerce website. It does not include eBay's marketplace audience or auction format, so it is not a like-for-like replacement for every eBay seller.
Can I keep selling on eBay after opening a Casa store?
Yes. A business can operate both channels, provided it keeps stock accurate and follows eBay's marketplace policies for orders and customers originating there.
Which option gives me more control over my brand?
Powered by Casa provides more direct control over the storefront, domain, pages, colours and customer journey. eBay provides seller branding within a standard marketplace interface.
